Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a well-woman exam?

A well-woman exam includes a pelvic exam, Pap smear (if due), breast exam, blood pressure check, STD screening (if indicated), contraceptive counseling, and discussion of reproductive and general health concerns. We also screen for mental health conditions and provide preventive care guidance.

How often do I need a Pap smear?

Women ages 21–29 need a Pap smear every 3 years. Women ages 30–65 can do a Pap smear every 3 years or HPV co-testing every 5 years. Your doctor will recommend a schedule based on your personal history and risk factors.

Can I get birth control at my primary care visit?

Yes. We prescribe all FDA-approved contraceptive methods including birth control pills, patches, IUDs, implants, injections, and vaginal rings. We discuss options, side effects, and help you choose the best method for your lifestyle and health.

Do you provide menopause treatment?

Yes. We offer menopause management including hormone replacement therapy (HRT), non-hormonal medications for hot flashes, vaginal estrogen for dryness, and lifestyle counseling. We'll discuss benefits and risks to create a personalized treatment plan for your symptoms.

Are women's health visits confidential?

Absolutely. All visits are confidential under HIPAA. For minors ages 12–17, California law allows confidential reproductive health services including STD testing, pregnancy testing, and contraception without parental notification.
